A nine year old boy identified as Samuel Kapasule, has died after drowning in Thondwe River, Zomba, where he went to swim with his friends.
According to Zomba Police Publicist Constable Patricia Supiliano, on April 11 this year, Samuel Kapasule left with his friends to swim at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
But after diving into the river, the victim did not come out and fear gripped his friends who immediately rushed back home and reported the matter to elders.
Police and some villagers rushed to the scene to search for the missing boy, but they were too late to save his life.
The body was taken to Pirimiti Heath Centre for postmortem where medical examination indicated that the death was due to suffocation.
Meanwhile, police have advised parents and guardians not to allow their children to go and swim in such rivers.
Late Samuel Kapasule hailed from Malemba village, Traditional Authority Mwambo in the district.
