Leader of Opposition in Parliament Dr. Lazarus Chakwera who is also Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President has trashed the speech made by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Tuesday during the official opening of the 2015/2016 Budget meeting, saying the speech lacked concrete solution to the challenges locking the country.

Chakwera said this in Parliament today when he was making his contribution to the National Address delivered by Mutharika in the August House.

In his contribution, Chakwera said Mutharika’s speech was full of self praises than tackling real issues affecting the country at the moment such as the looming hunger and the high inflation rate.

Chakwera said the people of Malawi does not want a busy President but an action President.

Turning to the much touted plundering of public funds which happened during the era of former President Dr. Joyce Banda dubbed cashgate, Chakwera said Mutharika cannot say he is committed in dealing with the scam while his administration is silent on the MK92 billion which was plundered during his late brother Professor Bingu wa Mutharika’s reign.

Chakwera also accused the President of failing to separate Government properties from Party property-sighting the painting of Lumbazi Police when Mutharika was celebrating his release from prison on treason charges, saying that was an abuse of public resources.

The leader of Opposition went further in trashing Mutharika’s remarks on slashing his powers, saying it doesn’t make sense that his powers have been trimmed while in real sense his powers has just been directed to some one within his office.

Chakwera remark’s attracted bowing from government benches while Opposition MPs stood up in praise of the speech.

Meawhile Chakwera has vowed to stand by Malawians and not to tolerate any decision which against the welfare of over 16 million Malawians.

  1. I listened to Chakwera’s speech on MIJ FM and was impressed by his proposal for identifying some farming agents to grow maize as opposed to trying to import maize as a solution to the looming hunger! This is a brilliant idea considering that drought affected almost all countries in the Southern Africa region! Importing is another cashgate tool and the Ngulus will share this cake
