Police in Lilongwe have arrested two suspects for allegedly shooting to death a 58 year old man and robbing different houses.
Confirming of the development Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Kingsley Dandaula, said the two were arrested on Monday, following a tip-off that the two were travelling to Kasungu where they were going to rob a shop.
The PRO further revealed that immediately mounted a temporary road block along Independence Drive, where they stopped cars that looked suspicious and during the process they stopped a car which they searched and found a dismantled shot gun.
“We searched the car that they were travelling to Kasungu and found a loaded dismantled shot gun which they failed to show legal papers for, so we arrested them,” Dandaula said.
He said they were still kept in custody for identification purposes by victims, and one victim has identified them as the ones who allegedly killed one Sankhulani Phiri 58 years, from Mbuna Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Mvona, Dedza district.
According to Dandaula the two suspects usually robbed homes in local communities like area 23, 24 and out skirts of Lilongwe districts.
Dandaula said the suspects are expected to answer charges for prohibitive possession of fire arms, Murder and robbery with violence and would appear in court soon.
Dandaula identified the suspects as, Decent Amos 26, from Kambalanje Village T/A chiseka, in Lilongwe District and Zinkambani Bongololo 18, from Chitukwi Village T/A Masasa Ntcheu District.
