GOVT USING LUTEPO TO IMPLICATE JB IN CASHGATE SCANDAL

Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that government is leaving no stone unturned to implicate former President Dr. Joyce Banda in the MK24 billion Cashgate scandals with recent report indicating that government met Oswald Lutepo to testify against Banda.

The revelation comes barely two weeks after Lutepo, the Prime suspect in the plunder of public funds dubbed cashgate pleaded guilty of theft and laundering money amounting to MK4 billion before Zomba High Court.

Following his plea presiding Judge Redson Kapindu convicted Lutepo and revoked his bail, leading to his rearrests waiting for sentencing in July.
According to FOM’s information, the prosecuting agencies held discussions with Lutepo prior to his conviction.

Lutepo’s lawyer Oswald Mtupila confirmed of the meeting s between Lutepo on one hand and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on the other, regarding Lutepo’s previous claims that he had evidence against the former president.

“We met and discussed some issues. The ACB also took a caution statement from my client, but I am not in a position to divulge the details,” said Mtupila.

Late last year, Lutepo told one of the local media house in the country that his company was just being used to siphon public money but the main beneficiary was former President.

Just after the news, Minister of Information and Tourism Kondwani Nankhumwa told the press that the government has the CCTV showing Lutepo meeting with Banda.

The development did not go down well with Banda who accused the DPP of conniving with Lutepo to implicate her on the matter.

Banda also trashed the CCTV, the cameras at State house stopped functioning during the reign of the late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika.
