Mphalombe First Grade Magistrate Court has denied bail application of a well-known musician Joe Gwaladi who is being accused of raping a 14-year old girl.
Gwaladi was arrested on Wednesday last week by Phalombe Police after receiving complaints from the victim (name withheld) and charged with Defilement under Section 138 (1) of the Penal Code.
When he first appeared in court on Thursday last week, Gwaladi pleaded not guilty to the charges and the case was adjourned to Tuesday this week.
Before the adjournment, First grade magistrate Damson Banda also threw away Gwaladi’s bail application despite pleading not guilty to the charges.
During cross examination on Tuesday, the victim firmly told the jam-parked court that Gwaladi defiled her and he warned her not to reveal the ordeal to anyone.
After the cross examination, the defence lawyer Chancy Gondwe applied for bail for the second time which was rejected by the presiding magistrate Damson Banda.
Meanwhile Gwaladi’s case has been adjourned to Friday June 5, 2015.
