The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has said the body will hold the much awaited Local Government by-elections in August 5, 2015 in five wards.
MEC Commissioner Nancy Tembo disclosed this on Saturday during the official opening of a daylong media workshop in preparation of the by-elections.
The by-elections were scheduled for June 19 but MEC called off the elections due to lack of funds.
In her speech, Tembo said the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development has assured the body that treasury will release funds for the by-elections.
The by-elections are slated for 5 August 2015 in five wards namely, Khwawa in Karonga, Chibanja in Mzuzu, Msikisi in Mangochi, Luchenza ward in Lunchenza and Zomba Central Ward in Zomba.
