MUTHARIKA TO GRACE THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE FIRST EVER MALAWI INVESTMENT FORUM TODAY

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will today preside over the official opening of the first ever Malawi Investment Forum at Bingu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital Lilongwe.

This has been disclosed in a Press Statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) signed by Presidential Press Secretary Gerald Viola.

The Forum which is held in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry will run for two days.

Speaking to press two days ago, Principal Secretary for Trade and Industry Cliff Chiunda said the forum will provide an opportune to participants to look into issues of mining, agriculture and agro-processing, energy, manufacturing, infrastructure development, Tourism and financial services.

The Principal Secretary said the forum will attract investors from across the whole world with an aim to develop the private sector as one way of boosting the country’s economic growth through direct investments.

More than 80 international participants from United States of America, United Kingdom, China, India, Republic of South Africa, Brazil, and Uganda have confirmed to provide support to the forum.

The forum is also expected to attract VVIP delegates that would include vice president of OPIC, SADC Executive Secretary, and Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, who have already shown interest to invest in Malawi.

Meanwhile 90 local companies are participating in the forum.
