Police in Lilongwe last week raided the Department of Tourism headquarters and impounded a bus belonging to the department for allegedlly failing to settle an outstanding bill with a security company.
Information gathered by FaceofMalawi through Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Tourism and Culture Else Tembo said she could not divulge more details on the issue, as she had just returned from Parliament.
“As you can see I’ve just walked into my office from Parliament. This is an ambush because I’ve not been briefed on what happened so I cannot answer anything,” said Tembo.
However, it is understood that the department accrued a bill of unspecified millions of kwachas with a security company providing the service at Umodzi Park.
Apart from the bus, the police further wanted to impound furniture and computers from one of the offices at the department but did not after officers protested.
