Pupils from four zones of Chisawani, Nansato, Goliati and Khonjeni in Thyolo are to breath a sigh of relief following the decision by the teachers to go back to work this morning.
The teachers made the decision after government released over K25 million to settle down their leave grants and arrears.
The pupil stayed four weeks without learning subsequent the Teachers stand of not gong back to work until government pay back their leave grants and areas.
Teachers via TUM petitioned District Commissioner Charles Thombozi who took up the issue with the Ministry of Education.
According to Thombozi, government has given the district council a go ahead to pay the teachers through vehement.
“Government admitted that it made a slip during the during the budget submission of 2014-2015.some teachers posted in 2014 were not put into contemplation. The leave grants and arrears were already submitted by the time teachers were posted”, confirmed DC.
Thombozi said out k44 million, the government has only released k25 million leave grants to be paid to the teachers and the remaining will be released after audit at the DEMS office
Both teachers who were already in the system and those who were just posted are gong to be paid, “said Thombozi.
Information gathered by face of Malawi indicates that teachers will start receiving money on Friday.
Tyolo District TUM Chairperson McNeal Makhembo was persuaded with the way the DC had handled the matter.
