CHINA GIVES MALAWI MK17 BILLION GRANT

The Chinese government has given the Malawi government a grant of MK17 billion to help in various sectors in the country.

The grant comes just barely a day after Huawei Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Xu Wenwei also offered ICT scholarships to Malawians to study in China’s top Universities.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika received the grant on behalf of Malawians during an audience with the Chinese Premier (Prime Minister), Mr. Li Keqiang on Thursday.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Mutharika said part of the grant will be used in the procuring of 100 Police vehicles to help in curbing the high crime rate so as to create a favourable condition for investors in the country.

“Part of this grant will be channeled towards the completion of 5 more technical colleges as we continue creating the skilled labor force necessary for social and economic development,” wrote Mutharika.

He also said that the Chinese government has vowed to continue supporting the country as it strives in fighting poverty.

Mutharika is in China for a three day Global Economic Forum (GEF) meeting which started on Thursday.
