Police in Mzuzu have arrested a Primary School Teacher for allegedly attempting to sell his albino girlfriend to a Tanzanian businessman at a price of MK6 million.
Northern Region Police spokesperson Maurice Chapola confirmed of the development in an interview and identified the suspect as Phillip Ngulube.
According to Chapola, the Police managed to apprehend the suspect after receiving a tip from well-wishers that Ngulube was offering his girlfriend for sale.
“Ngulube was caught by police on his way to selling the girl to an alleged Tanzanian businessman for six million Kwacha ($10,000),” said Chapola.
Chapola said the suspect has been charged with abduction with intent to murder.
Albino body parts are desired by witch doctors for use in black magic potions and spells, said to bring love, luck and wealth.
Albinism is a genetically inherited condition that leaves the body unable to produce melanin, the pigment that colours skin, hair and eyes.
