WATCHMEN ARRESTED FOR THEFT AT WORK PLACE

Two watchmen and a friend are in police custody for allegedly stealing computers and other items at their work place.

Balaka police Head of Criminal Investigations Department Assistant Superintendent Maxwell Divala confirmed of the development and identified the suspects as Lloyd Simango (33) and Jacob Foster (27) who were working as watchmen at Bakhita Education Complex in the district.

He says the two connived with their friend Feyam Dzoole 26 early this month and broke into the Complex library and storeroom and went away with three complete sets of desktop computers, six bags of maize and three bags of beans all valued to K567, 000.

“The suspects used duplicate keys to break into the Complex library and storeroom and it took almost a week before the School management noticed the break in.

“Upon receiving the complaint, investigations were carried out that led to the arrest of the two watchmen Lloyd Simango and Jacob Foster who confessed to have broken into the Complex,” said Divala.

Police has since recovered all the three sets of computers and two bags of beans.

The suspects are expected to appear before court to answer a case of breaking into a building and committing felony therein which is contrary to section 311 of the Penal code.

Lloyd Simango and Jacob Foster come from village Senzani and Matale in the area of Traditional Authority Phambala in Ntcheu district while Feyam Dzoole comes from Mponda village, in the area of Senior Chief Nsamala in Balaka district.

Meanwhile, Police in the district is appealing to the general public to first vet any person they want to employ as a watchman or any other job.
