13 MALAWIANS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY IN EGYPT

Thirteen (13) Malawians were on Wednesday awarded scholarships by the Egyptian Embassy in Lilongwe to undergo in various capacity building training Programmes in Egypt.

Speaking during the presentation of the scholarships, the Minister of Information, Tourism and Culture Jappie Mhango thanked the Egyptian Government for the support it provides to Malawi in various social, economic sectors.

“Government is very thankful to the Egyptian government for the support it renders to Malawi in various fields of capacity building,” said Mhango.

Mhango appealed to participants to work had during the capacity building training in Egypt, since he said the knowledge they would not only help them as individuals but the country as a whole in its economic growth.

The Minister asked for more support to the other sectors such as Agriculture and Industry and Trade among others.

Speaking earlier the Egyptian Ambassador to Malawi Maher EL-Adawy said his government would continue providing support to Malawi in its various economic sectors.

“I expect you to perform better during this capacity building trainings and contribute positively to Malawi’s economic growth,” he said.
Adawy expressed satisfaction to most Malawians who have already undergone such trainings from Egypt for their good performance.
Participants to the capacity building trainings have been drawn from the Malawi Defence Force, Malawi Police Services, Immigration Department, Trade and Industry and the media.

The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) provides financial resources for capacity building training programmes to allow participants study in some of Egypt’s Premier Institutions.

The participants are expected to undergo in the fields of Bomb/Explosives Disposal and Removal and has attracted 4 candidates from Engineers Battalion in Kasungu, Advanced Course for Broadcasting and Communicators with 2 people from Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and Zodiak Broadcasting to participate, Export Marketing Techniques and Export Plan with 1 candidate and 6 candidates from the Police and Immigration Department to be equipped in Human Rights and Protection of Women’s Rights.

Earlier in 2014, Egypt had provided 117 capacity Building Training programmes in the fields of Health, Police, Information, Media, Diplomacy, Agriculture, Trade, Rural Development, Empowerment of Women, Natural Resources, Education, Environment, Telecommunication, Fibre Optics, Military and Immigration among others. amna
