GUARD STEAL MK22.5 MILLION FROM A CHINESE NATIONAL IN LL

A 28-year old Omega Guard Services guard is in Police custody in Lilongwe for allegedly breaking into the house of a Chinese National before going away with money amounting to MK22,500,000 and two laptops.

Lilongwe Police Station Spokesperson Kingsley Dandaula confirmed of the development and identified the suspect as Paul Malembo and the victim as Chen Jian who owns Haoli Shoe Factory at area 4 in Lilongwe.

“Jian left his Flats on Saturday morning (10th October) for his factory with the Omega guard on duty, upon coming back around noon, Jian found his bedroom window open and the Omega guard gone. He went inside and found the bags with the said money and Lenovo and Sharpe Laptops gone,” said Dandaula.

Dandaula said Police apprehended Malembo at Chingeni road block in Balaka with K6 million and Omega Guard uniform while travelling to Mangochi.

The Spokesperson said Lilongwe Police went to Balaka and interrogated with Malembo who confessed about the theft and mentioned his partner (name withheld) in Mangochi.

“When Lilongwe Police went to Mangochi, they did not find the second suspect but his wife who revealed where her husband had kept the money and found K14, 785,540 .00,” said Dandaula.

Meanwhile, enquiries are still in progress to arrest the suspect and to recover the remaining money. Police are advising the general public and business persons to keep such huge amounts of money in banks and not at home.
