GOVT COY ON 20 MALAWIAN DOCTORS EMPLOYED IN LESOTHO

The government of Malawi through Ministry of Health has said it will not take any action against 20 of the 51 doctors that have been employed in Lesotho as revealed by FaceofMalawi.

Minister of Health Dr. Peter Kumpalume said this in an interview with the press when he was reacting to the reports that 20 of the 51 newly graduated medical doctors that the government of Malawi is failing to employ due to financial constraints have been employed by the government of Lesotho.

“I am disappointed, as a medical doctor myself, this is very disappointing indeed. But we cannot reverse their decision if they have been offered jobs elsewhere, they have a right to work anywhere they want to,” said Kumpalume.

Recently the government of Malawi came under from Medical Doctors Union of Malawi (MDUM) and the Society of Medical Doctors (SMD) for failing to employ the said doctors in its health system.

MDUM and SDM accused the government of displaying lack of seriousness in dealing with challenges locking the health Ministry and the two bodies gave government a 14-day ultimatum to reverse its decision or face massive industrial strike.

Despite the threat the government of Malawi remained adamant on employing the said doctors until the government of Lesotho jumped in and started recruiting the said doctors.

Meanwhile the Minister has revealed that the government has the money to employ the 51 doctors.
