KAMLEPO CALLS FOR FORENSIC AUDIT REPORT INTO THE MALATA, CEMENT SUBSIDY PROGRAMME

Rumphi East Member of Parliament (MP) Kamlepo Kalua has asked for thorough forensic audit report to the ongoing Malata and Cement subsidy programme introduced by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regime.

Kalua said this on Thursday in Parliament when he was asking the Minister of Lands and Housing Atupele Muluzi to explain why some officials ask beneficiaries to pay for transportation cost.

Kalua said the parliament approved K14 billion for the malata and cement programme for last year and this year yet the government is struggling to build 80 houses in each constituency as promised by the government last year.

Reacting to the claims, Muluzi promised the August House that government will soon release the audit report on the programme.

Muluzi also urged Kalua report all officials that are demanding transportation cost from beneficiaries, saying everything is paid for.

Also reacting to the demand by Dedza East MP Juliana Lunguzi who asked the government to scrap off the programme, saying its not benefiting locals Muluzi said the claim is baseless.

Muluzi said students cannot have very good education if they live in deplorable conditions.
