MUTHARIKA CRITICIZED FOR FAILING TO HONOUR LATE NJAUJU DURING ANTI-CORRUPTION DAY COMMEMORATION

Centre for Human Right and Rehabilitation (CHRR) Executive Director Timothy Mtambo has criticized President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for failing to trash the brutal killing of late Issa Njauju at this year’s national anti-corruption day.

The commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day was held on Thursday in the Southern district of Mulanje and Mutharika was the guest of honour at the event.

Malawians were shocked to see all the speakers during the event including the President not honouring late Njauju who was third in command at the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Speaking in an interview with the press, Mtambo described the action as unfortunate, saying it shows lack of commitment on the part of the government to respect people’s rights.

“We are asking a number of questions to government; we are failing to understand that the ACB lost its senior officer who died a work related death but at anti-corruption day people could not even spare a minute of silence [for him].

“We expected stronger statements from the president and the ACB officials as people are being killed,” said Mtambo.

According to information at hand, the omission of Njauju’s name during the event was deliberate by OPC.

Meanwhile the police have so far arrested two people in connection with the gruesome murder of Njauju in July this year.
