CATHOLIC PRIEST ATTACKED BY THUGS IN LL: THREE SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Three suspected thieves are in Police custody for allegedly attacking a Priest for Don Bosco Parish on Friday in the capital Lilongwe.

Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kingsley Dandaula of the development in an interview with the press and identified the Priest as Father Fravious Chikadzu 28.

According to Dandaula, the Priest met his fate as he was rushing to football ground to see what was happening after hearing a quarrel between the teams at around17:30 hours.

“On the way to the ground, Father Chikadzu saw one suspect pulling iron sheets from Airtel Tower located within the Parish and carrying them away and the Priest started shouting for help while chasing the suspect who later dropped the iron sheets but the Priest managed to catch him,” said Dandaula.

The Police Publicist said in the process two other suspects came to rescue their friend and overpowered the Priest and assaulted him seriously and lost two front teeth.

The Priest was treated as an outpatient at Kawale Health Center.

Kawale Police have since arrested three people; Boniface Saulo 16, from Samama village, TA Mponda in Mangochi, Gift Mwase 24, from Nsundwe village, TA Kalolo in Lilongwe and Clever Banda 18, from Gabriel village, TA Kachere in Dedza district.

The suspects are expected to answer charges of unlawful wounding contrary to section 241 of the penal code.
