END OF THE WAR: FIONA KALEMBA SWORN AS NEW CLERK OF PARLIAMENT

Fiona Kalemba has finally been sworn as new Clerk of Parliament (CoP) at a ceremony presided over by Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda at Parliament building in the capital Lilongwe.

The development comes barely two weeks after the High Court in Mzuzu upheld the appointment Kalemba by President Professsor Arthur Peter Mutharika, saying Mutharika did not err in the appointment.

Four opposition Members of Parliament led by Rumphi East MP Kamlepo Kalua obtained an injunction from Mzuzu after reports emerged that Kalemba was not the right person for the positions, saying she came third during the interviews conducted by Parliament Service Commission chaired by Speaker of Palriament Richard Msowoya.

In his speech after the swearing in Ceremony, Nyirenda urged Kalemba to discharge hers duties without fear of favour.

Kalemba took the oath of allegiance to help her uphold the Republican constitution and the oath of Officer to help serve Malwians without fear or favor.

The ceremony was postponed in November last year after the said four parliamentarians obtained a court injunction in Mzuzu.

Meanwhile Kalemba has vowed to discharge her duties according to the constitution of Malawi.
