GAY GROUP ON MUTHARIKA’s NECK OVER THE WITHDRAW OF MSONDA’s HOMOSEXUAL CASE

As debate continues on whether the country should legalize same sex marriages or not, a group of gays in Malawi calling itself the Rainbow Generation has condemn the decision taken by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s administration to withdraw the case where former ruling People’s Party (PP) Spokesperson Ken Msonda was being accused of inciting violence on homosexuals in the country.

Msonda was dragged to court by Timothy Mtambo of Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR) and Cedep Executive Director Gift Trapence over his remarks where he told the press that gays are worse than dogs and should be killed.

But the case was withdrawn by the Blantyre Magistrate Court following an application made by the state through Director of Public Prosecution Mary Kachale.

Kachale asked for the discontinuance of the case in pursuant to Section 77 (2) of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Code.

In a statement released on Thursday seen by FaceofMalawi, the gay group expressed dissatisfaction against the action taken by Mutharika’s administration.

“The action of government leaves us wondering as to the safety of us of the gay community in the midst of the fears that we have been having all along,” reads tha statement in part signed by Rainbow Generation’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Mwai.

Mwai said gay issue in the country needs to be treated equally as is the case with the case to do with people living with albinism in the country where the president condemn the act.

“We recently saw the president and the nation condemning the barbaric acts against people with albinism on the basis that they have a right to life.

“We are wondering if the condemning of this kind of speech would be any different from the condemnation of killing albinos by the president,” read the statement in part.

Meanwhile PETRA President Kamuzu Chibambo has urged government not to allow homosexual act in the country just for donors’ sake.

Chibambo said the country can do without donor’s aide.
