EXIT LIVINGSTONIA SYNOD ENTER BT SYNOD: REVEREND CHIMESYA SUSPENDED

Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that Blantyre Synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbytery (CCAP) has suspended Reverend Stanley Chimesya for allegedly revealing to the media the plunder of the resources at the church by its General Secretary Reverend Alex Maulana.

The development comes barely days after the Church fired Chimesya from his position as Prison chaplain.

In a letter addressed to Chimesya dated February 8, 2016 signed by the Synod Deputy General Secretary Reverend Moyenda Kanjerwa, the Synod says it has suspended Chimesya for going against rules of the church.

The letter says Chimesya has been suspended for three months without pay and the church has revoked his transfer to Nchalo CCAP Church.

“The C.C.A.P Blantyre Synod Management Board (“the board”) has noticed that you have gone to the press and made scathing publications about C.C.A.P Blantyre Synod and its General Secretary.

“Rev. Chimesya, you are aware of the C.C.A.P Blantyre Synod (“the Synod”) policy that stipulates that the only spokesperson to the press for the Synod is the General Secretary or his Deputy. You had no authority to make the various remarks that you have made, which remarks were published in the daily newspapers in Malawi and an online publication,” reads part of the letter to Chimesya.

Maulana and Chimesya started fighting for position before last year’s General Assembly as reports indicated that Maulana was being sponsored by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) while Chimesya was being sponsored by opposition People’s Party (PP).
