MAN SLAPPED 14-YEARS JAIL SENTENCE FOR DEFILING TWO GIRLS

Gringo Binda, 65 has been sentenced to 14 year imprisonment with hard labour for defiling six and nine year-old girls.

Police say he gave the girls K50 each to keep their mouths shut.

Police Prosecutor, Sub Inspector, Rodrick Kamuona told Lilondwe First Grade Magistrates Court that Binda defiled the two girls on 28th January this .

Kamuona added that one of the victimized girl’s mother saw her daughter with a K50 note and upon questioning her the girl said Binda gave her the K50 after defiling them.

Binda was questioned and he admitted that he indeed gave the girls that amount but denied having sex with them.

The matter was referred to Mposa Health Center where medical examination proved the two girls were defiled, according to Kamuona.

The prosecutor said Binda was arrested on 28th January this year after it was also learnt that he defiled the two girls several times.

He pleaded not guilty to defilement charge which is contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.

Five witnesses testified against Binda and Sub Inspector Kamuona asked the court to give Binda stiffer punishment considering that defilement is a serious offence.

First Grade Magistrate Esther Phiri found him guilty of defiling the two little girls and sentenced him to 14 years IHL.

The magistrate said defilement is a serious offence hence Binda deserved a custodial sentence.

Binda comes from Nusheka Village, Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba while the two girls (who are not sisters) are from Traditional Authority Mposa in Machinga.
