TEENAGE BOY LOSES TWO ARMS, LEG AFTER BEING ELECTROCUTED

A standard five pupil at Chigumula primary school is battling for his life at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) after doctors amputated his arms and leg after getting electrocuted in Chigumula Township last week.

The boy has been identified as Eliam Benjamini aged 12.

According to information at hand, Benjamini accidentally touched Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) live cable which was lying on the ground and suffered severe burns.

Due to the condition which the boy was in, the doctors at the hospital had no options but to remove the two arms and the right leg.

Media reports indicate that ESCOM officials are yet to offer help on the boy.

When contacted for comments, ESCOM public relations officer Kittery Chingota asked for more time on the matter.

On her part, Minister of Gender Disability, the Elderly and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati has said government is following the matter.

Meanwhile reports indicate that the boy will be transferred to Mwaiwathu Private Hospital for special treatment following news that his condition is getting worse.
