Muluzi’s MK1.7 billion corruption case to resume today

The High Court in Blantyre is today expected to deliver a ruling on the request by former President Dr. Bakili Muluzi to have his MK1.7 billion corruption case dismissed.

Muluzi together with his personal aide Lyness Whiskey are being accused of misappropriating money meant for development from donors.

Last week, lead prosecutor Reyneck Matemba recused himself from the case citing personal reasons forcing the defence to apply for the dismissal of the case.

Muluzi’s lawyer argued that it is senseless to continue with the case where there is no prosecutor.

Judge McLean Kamwambe then adjourned the case today where he is expected to make his ruling after hearing from the state on whether the case should continue or not.

Meanwhile many Malawians have expressed concern over how government is handling the case.
