Kalindo’s half naked protest against albino killings: petition delivered

Mulanje South Member of Parliament Bon Kalindo on Thursday led Malawians in half naked protest to force government to effect death sentence on those people found guilty of killing people living with albinism.

The protest follows a sharp rise in albino killings in the country with reports indicating that close to 20 people have so far been killed in the country.

Speaking before the protest, Kalindo popularly known as Winiko promised to protest in birth suit but this was not the case on Thursday protest.

When he was asked why he did not fulfill his promises, Kalindo said he was advised by his lawyer that walking naked in the country is a crime.

Coming to the protest, Kalindo said he was happy that his dream of protesting against albino killings has been fulfilled and he asked Parliament to act swiftly on the matter.

He said people have uttered all sorts of remarks against him.

Receiving the petition at parliament on behalf of the speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya, Kamlepo Kalua promised Kalindo to work on the issue as soon as possible.

Meanwhile Parliament passed a motion moved by Dowa East MP Richard Chimwendo Banda (Malawi Congress Party-MCP) to amend the Anatomy Act to attract stiffer penalties for perpetrators of abduction and killing of people with albinism.
