Man arrested for ransacking Bingu’s burial site

An 18-year old boy is in Police custody in Thyolo in connection to a wanton destruction of former President Bingu wa Muntharika’s burial site commonly known as Mpumulo wa Bata.

According to information sourced by this publication, six portraits and other accessories have been broken by thugs.

Police have identified the suspect as mentally disturbed, Ernest Mayaya Wailesi from Mitabali Village in Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo District.

He has been charged him with two counts: tampering with a graveyard and malicious damage.

When approached for comments, National Police Spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa said investigations are under way on the matter.

Meanwhile security has been tightened at the mausoleum.
