Revealed: Typhoid fever forces management to indefinitely close St Luk’s College of Nursing

Information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that St. Luke’s College of Nursing closed last week was due to Typhoid fever that hit the school.

Published reports last week indicated that the management suspected that the disease was Malaria but a taste to the victims revealed that it was not.

But a statement released by Ministry of Health revealed that the disease is Typhoid and that 348 cases have been reported.

According to the statement, the disease has been reported at Malosa Secondary School and St Lukes College of Nursing.

Secretary for Health Dr. McPhail Magwira assured Malawians that the Community Health Sciences Unit in Lilongwe and Zomba District Health Office will continue working together with the affected institutions and communities in Malosa to control the disease.

It further stated that treatment for the disease is available at St Lukes Hospital and all the other hospitals in the country.

Typhoid is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella typhi with symptoms of high fever, headache, general body weakness, abdominal pain and constipation.
