Hardcore criminal gets 7 years for burglary and theft

A principal offender who has been terrorizing Mzuzu city has started getting what he deserves courtesy of police and courts.

The convict who so far has other fifteen new cases to answer in court has been sentenced to seven years for burglary and theft contrary to sections 309 and 271 of the Penal Code respectively.

The court heard that 24 year old Moses Ngwira, during the night of 21-22 April 2016 at Luwinga location in the city of Mzuzu, broke into the house of Chimwemwe Nanguwo and made away with LG plasma tv screen valued to K250,000.

Assistant Superintendent Msowoya told the court after conducting investigations, detectives at Luwinga Police Unit recovered the item in Karonga.The one who bought it said he got it from the convict.

The convict pleaded guilty to both charges leveled against him.

After all was said and done,Principal Resident Magistrate Gladys Gondwe sentenced the convict to seven years and two years for burglary and theft respectively.Both counts to run concurrently.

The convict is the man behind the recent spate of burglaries in the city.

His arrest led to recoveries of household items worth ten million law enforcers in Mzuzu city recently made.

Moses Ngwira hails from Chilira village in the area of traditional authority Mtwalo in Mzimba district.

Meanwhile Mr Chimwemwe Nanguwo who is a clinical officer at Mzuzu Central Hospital is all smiles following the recovery of his plasma screen by the police and the subsequent sentencing of the convict.
