Injustice in public works program and Malata subsidy program worries people of Neno

By Robert Kumwenda

The people of Neno in the area of T/A Chekucheku have expressed their dissatisfaction over public works and Malata subsidy program.

This reports that people in the area of T/A Chekucheku are not benefiting from the programs.

It is reported that in 2012 and in 2014 the number of beneficiaries was 2805 but at the moment the number has drastically being reduced because there is no justice in the whole process.

One of the concerned people Mateyu William who is group village headman Mpakati said followers of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) are not engaged in the programmes but supporters of People’s Party (PP), People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) and Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

“We were told that we will be given 30 iron sheets on Malata subsidy program (each Member of Parliament 15) but there is only one house under the program which belongs to PP supporters said another concerned person Afred Donda who is group village Chekucheku,” he said.

Another concerned person John Kasese who is group village Chidakwani said this is so because Neno District Commissioner (DC) Memory Kaleso Monteiro belongs to PP together with G.B sitolo of the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC) as well as Alick Milanzi of the assembly together with Rosemary Bvulumende and her husband.

“Even councilor of T/A Chekucheku is not given opportunity because he belongs to DPP as opposed to other councilors from other parties,” he lamented.

The people are therefore asking those in authority to intervene on the concerns raised.
