Truck accident claims life in Mzimba

One person is reported dead while two others have sustained serious injuries after a truck they were traveling in overturned in Chikangawa forest in Mzimba.

The accident happened on Friday night.

Chikangawa Police officer Lillian Nkhoma confirmed of the accident in an interview with the press, saying the accident happened at a place near Kasipe Lodge where Malawi Defence Force Soldiers (MDF) are camping.

Nkhoma said the driver of the truck failed to negotiate the corner and the truck overturned, killing the assistant driver on the spot.

According to Nkhoma, the driver of the truck and another person believed to be a mechanic was rescued by MDF soldiers and the two have been referred to Mzimba District Hospital for treatment.

Nkhoma said the accident involved a truck from Tanzania which was heading to Lilongwe.
