Chakuamba’s death takes social media by storm

Gwanda Chakuamba’s death has taken social media especially Facebook by storm with many Malawians expressing their sadness.

Chakuamba died this afternoon at Blantyre Adventist Hospital in Blantyre where he was admitted last week.

The social media is currently flooded with condolence messages with others sharing pictures of late Chakuamba who served Commander of the MCP youth group Malawi Young Pioneers during the reign of Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

Theophilus Maurice Chathyoka wrote: “RIP IN PEACE MBUYA…… our own shire valley strong politician…. I will always remember you in 1999 when you almost defeated aCHAIR in that intense general election.”

Another concerned citizen identified as Newsite Zamaboma: “We Ar Going To Remember This Man In Malawi. Dada, Gwanda Chakuamba R I P.”

Chakuamba’s death has not only shocked Malawians general but even politicians have also been saddened by his departure.

Writing on his official facebook page, well-known musician cum-politician Lucius Banda has added his voice over Chakuamba’s death.

“Rest in peace….Gwanda chakwamba,” wrote Lucius Banda on his official facebook page.

Chakuamba Phiri was born 4 April 1934.

Late Chakuamba hails from the lower Shire Valley area in southern Malawi.

Chakuamba served in various cabinet positions under founding President Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Bakili Muluzi and briefly under Bingu wa Mutharika.

Recently he was sent to India for treatment by President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika where he had successful operation.
