Classes suspended at MZUNI over academic staff strike

Information reaching faceofMalawi indicates that classes at Mzuzu University have been suspended indefinitely due to strike by academic and support staff.

The strike follows an Industrial Relations Court ruling on Tuesday which gave Mzuzu University Staff permission to proceed with their industrial action.

Last month Mzuzu University administration obtained injunction restraining Mzuni Academic Staff Union and Support Staff Union from holding a sit-in demanding salary hike, saying all channels of negotiations were not exhausted.

According to an eyewitness from Mzuzu, the strike has started and classes have been suspended.

The eyewitness told this publication that students currently meeting to map the way forward following the strike by the staff.
