Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global initiative has officially launched the engaging communities and schools in support of Adolescent Girls Education in Malawi.
His Exellency Tariq Al Gurg Chief Executive Officer said the 1,836,759 (USD 500,000) grant which is equivalent to k350 million will be invested in a program that will benefit 11,000 students in Thyolo district.
“Through the program which is implemented by Creative Centre for Community Mobilization (CRECCOM) a Malawi based non-governmental organization Dubai Cares is working towards facilitating the transition from primary to secondary school, mobilizing communities in support of girls’ education and improving Engilsh language instruction in schools,” he said.
The launch coincided with the International Day of Girls’ child and new girls education program in Malawi.
Dubai CARES CEO said through the program they hope to assist government of Malawi, which will made enormous strides in improving the lives and education of the country’s’ young boys and girls, by building those achievements.
“We hope to partner with CRECCOM because has deep experience in understanding of the context in Malawi. Who will take task in designing and implementing cost-effective and sustainable solutions aiming to improve girls’ chances at accessing quality education and learning, HE SAID.
Speaking at the same function Minister of Education Science and Technology Dr Emmaneul Fabiano said this has become at the right time considering that the dropout rate for girls in primary schools in higher than that of boys.
He said the sustainability of the program depend on engaging and communities as well as availability of the resources.
“The program will be scaled up in other districts depending on the success and am urging girls to take advantage of this opportunity to be educated,” he said.
CRECCOM vice Chair Joseph Kazima said Thyolo has been chosen because of low number of children attending primary and secondary education.
He added that more than 85 percent of people in Thyolo live in poverty hence the reason why it was chosen.
