Minister of Information and Communications Technology Malisoni Ndau has said he is not aware of the exact day when President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will be returning to Malawi from United States of America (USA).
Ndau said this in a statement released on Sunday made available to FaceofMalawi refuting rumours making rounds on social media that President Mutharika is critically ill.
In the statement, Ndau urged Malawians to ignore the rumours, saying Mutharika is enjoying very robust health and is continuing to carry on his functions and duties whilst in the USA.
“Once again, Government reiterates that the President is enjoying very good and robust health in the USA and that when he concludes the official duties he is currently undertaking which are for the benefit of all Malawians, the Nation will be advised in the next few days regarding the dates he will return home.
“There is therefore no need to panic,” said Ndau.
President Mutharika left the country earlier last month for the United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) in New York which ended two weeks ago.
Mutharika’s continued stay in USA has attracted mixed reactions on the social media with others speculating that he is critically ill.
Meanwhile Ndau’s statement has attracted strong criticisms from analyst with others, saying the statement has failed to address most of the questions that Malawians are having at the moment.
