Mutharika to launch national IDs project on Thursday at BICC

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will on Thursday preside over the launch of the national identity cards at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.

This has been confirmed in a press statement released on Monday made available to faceofMalawi signed by Presidential Press officer Mgeme Kalilani.

According to the statement, Mutharika will arrive at the venue at Ten O’clock in the morning.

The launch was cancelled last week due to what the organizers said logistical change but inside sources told faceofMalawi reporter that the event was called off due to Mutharika’s illness.

The national IDs will address the challenges Malawians have long faced due to the absence of the documents.

Malawi is the only country in southern Africa without such IDs for its citizens.

The ID’s project is a milestone of the Mutharika government as Malawians currently use driving licenses, passports, and in some cases voter registration certificates as proof of their citizenship in places and institutions where identification is needed.
