Suspected witch stoned to death in Blantyre: five people arrested

Police in Blantyre have arrested five people for allegedly killing 73 year old Esme Andrew Khanawe of Mabalanje Village T/A Somba in the district through mob justice.

Blantyre police assistant Public Relations Officer, Andrew Mayawo confirmed of the development in an interview with Daily Times, saying the incident happened on Tuesday.

According to Mayawo, on Monday Khanawe’s grandchild Nyamazao Mlangali died without any illness, prompting some villagers to speculate that it was the granny who killed her through witchcraft.

He said on Tuesday some irate villagers led by the arrested suspects ganged up and stoned the suspect to death.

Meanwhile the five suspects will appear in court soon.
