WARNING: PUMA Filling Stations in Lilongwe selling contaminated fuel, MERA yet to receive official complaint

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has said it is yet to receive official complaint from car owners following alleged reports that some Filing/Gas Stations in the capital Lilongwe are selling contaminated fuel.

On Wednesday social media was a washed with reports that three PUMA filling stations namely Stations Area 18 Puma, Gemini Puma and Area 23 Puma are selling contaminated fuel.

The development raised panic among motorist with others thronging to the said filling stations to confront the fuel attendant.

“I write to inform everyone who might have fueled at the following Filing/Gas Stations Area 18 Puma, Gemini Puma and Area 23 Puma, that these gas station received a consignment of petrol which was contaminated, last Friday.

“It may happen that your vehicle is failing to accellerate even after heavy pedal pushing, misfiring, etc. You may try to change plugs, fuel pump, oil filter, etc these may not help. If so e-mail Mr E Mkandawire on the following e-mail addressecm@africa-online.net he will be able to assist in any way because the Malawi Bureau of Standards did come and conducted test and confirmed that the fuel was not good,” reads one of the statement sourced by FaceofMalawi reporter.

One of the victims who opted for anonymity confirmed of the development in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), saying after fueling his vehicle at one of the said filling stations his car started misfiring.

While confirming of the reports, MERA spokesperson said the energy body is yet to receive official complaint.
