Blantyre City dwellers not amused with the outcome of Mayoral polls

People living in the commercial City of Blantyre have expressed dissatisfaction over outcomes of mayoral polls of the city which has seen former Deputy Mayor Wild Ndipo being elected as new Mayor replacing Noel Chalamanda.

Ndipo of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) outclassed his former boss with 17 votes against 2 votes.

Just after the elections, some concerned citizen in the city took the issue to the social media, saying the loss of Chalamanda is a setback to the development of the city.

Others even went further by proposal for the amendment of city by-laws.

Joe Nakaliseven wrote: “this is cruel!!!!! change the voting system, people should choose the Mayor, because ndi anthu amene amaona zi ntchito zimene wagwira!!! for blantyre people will remember Chalamanda.”

Added Wa Nambobe Maulidi : “Chalamanda will be missed. Blantyre was transformed and became the most beautiful city in Malawi within a year in his office. We were looking forward to greater transformations in the city. We hope politics has not played a role. We look forward to what the new chief will bring. We want more not less.”

Another concerned citizen identified as Andrew Memory Wa Manoma: Malawi hate hardworking people……..loving corruption and cruel people……why #chalalmanda?something somewhere is wrong. We will never ever had a mayor of chalamandas cariba…..Respect chalamanda you beautify and change our city blantyre,we will alwayz remember you.Wish you well and o da best,God bless you.”

Meanwhile the position of Deputy Mayor has gone to James Makwinya.
