Man killed by moving train in Mchinji

Unknown person has died after being hit by a moving engine trolley in Mchinji district.

Mchinji police station deputy public relations officer Sub Inspector Rome Chauluka, told Mana on Monday that the trolley run-over the man to death at Beyata Village in the of area of Traditional Authority Zulu on Saturday.

The trolley was being driven by a driver for the Central East Railways (CEAR) Emmanuel Bonongwe (33), at around 06:30 a.m.

Chauluka further said the driver honked but the deceased did not respond to move away from the railway line and the engine trolley run-over the deceased to death.

“Officers from Kamwendo police unit visited the scene and collected the dead body for postmortem at Mchinji hospital,” he said.

Postmortem report has established cause of death as due to severe head injury.

The dead body is lying at the Mchinji District Hospital mortuary waiting for identification.

This is the second time for the district to witness such an accident as last year a standard 3 learner at Kamuzu Primary School was severely injured by a moving train.

Meanwhile the police in the district are appealing to the communities to avoid playing along the railway line and to be careful when crossing it-mana
