15 students arrested for planning to vandalize school property

Police in Mchinji district on Wednesday arrested 15 students from Chimteka Community Day Secondary School who allegedly planned to vandalize school property.

Chimteka CDSS Head teacher, Clement Mponda told Mana that on Wednesday around 01:00 a.m. he was tipped by some students that a group of angry students plotted to destroy the school property for reasons he said are yet to be established.

“I was tipped by some students that their friends had planned to destroy school property. This prompted me to call police from Kamwendo Trading Centre who immediately came for rescue the same night and so far arrested some of the students,” he said.

Meanwhile the arrested students have been kept at Kamwendo Police Unit for questioning.

Mchinji Police public relations officer, Kaitano Lubrino confirmed the development but has since asked for more time for investigations.

This could have been the second time for the school to be vandalized by the students as in January this year; the same school was vandalized by students.

In just a period of three months, three community day secondary schools in Mchinji; Chimteka, Kholoni, Kochirira, and Guilleme Private School are in bad shape following attacks by irate students who destroyed school property.
