Govt asked to apologize to the US government

Government has been asked to apologize to the government of United States of America following it’s withdraw of direct budget to the Ministry of the Health (MoH) over allegations of bad record of bank fraud report.

Umodzi Party (UP) President Professor John Chisi said this following a recent story published in the Nation Newspaper which revealed massive corruption malpractice by some officers from the Ministry.

Chisi said when bilateral donors withdraw aid to this country it is a sign of loss of confidence and the country need to reflect on it.

“We are already aware that we do not have support from our donors, the system we are using is failing and there is no way we can bring them back till we change,” he said.

He said the government should apologise to the US government for misappropriate of funds in the Ministry of health and the Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe should take a leading role.

“All the people that are involved should be fired and Malawi must learn by being disciplined so that we can still get trust from our bilateral partners,” he added.

Umodzi Party President also said that Malawi cannot develop without support from bilateral donors.

“Anything which we do that destroys our relations with bilateral donors will result in deep poverty for our nation.

Why do we want to suffer when we have a chance to have a good life? This is the question that every Malawian has to answer,” he said.

Minister of Health Dr. Peter Kumpalume has also said that it is up to the Office of the President and cabinet (OPC) and the Health Service Commission to act on those involved in the malpractice.
