Dausi distances DPP from Mulomole’s office robbery attack

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) reign has distanced itself from the robbery attack into the offices of Father Augustine Mulomole at the Zomba Diocese Research and Development Offices.

On Wednesday last week unknown thugs invade the office of Mulomole who is also Public Affairs Committee (PAC) spokesperson and the thugs went away with K2.5 million in cash, computers and other office equipment.

The attack came a day before PAC delivered a statement to journalists in Blantyre where they described Mutharika’s reign of miserably failing the country.

The attack attracted speculations with others accusing the ruling DPP of having a hand on the robbery attack.

Reacting to the claims, Minister of Information and Communications Technology Nicholas Dausi trashed the accusations, saying it’s baseless.

“It is unfair to suggest that the crime was orchestrated by agents of Government in response to an uncomplimentary statement by Public Affairs Committee (PAC) last week without evidence.

“The public is reminded that this is not the first time that PAC has attacked Government, but, as always, we will continue to defend their right to speak even as we do not agree with them,” said Dausi.

He added: “This Government does not believe in using violence against voices of dissent. In any case, the statement by PAC was unanimously condemned by the public and has no effect that it can worry Government.

“We sympathise with the Catholic Church to which the affected property belong and Father Mulomole whose office was directly affected.”

Meanwhile PAC is scheduled to hold the Sixth All-Inclusive Stakeholders Conference in May this year where it will ask Malawians to decide the next action as regards the future of the nation.
