Police sergeant son commits suicide after failing term two standard 5 exams in Thyolo

The 12 year old boy,  standard 5 pupil and son of police sergeant has committed suicide in Thyolo  after being feared to be whipped by his father as he failed the second term examination.

According to Thyolo Police report, the incident occurred on April 7, 2017 around 1900 hours and the deceased is son of Sergeant Mvahiwa, named Silvester Mhaviwa (Junior).

The deceased was in standard 5 pupil of village Makalani, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mpama.

Police filed that the deceased along with his relatives were warned by the father not to fail this term exam, and if they fail they will be whipped.

So in the evening the deceased disappeared and was found hanging from a water pipe behind the bathroom using a cloth and was rushed to Thyolo district Hospital where he was pronounced dead and hospital officials confirmed death was due to suffocation.
