Kamlepo dates Parliament for the first time since his abduction

Rumphi East Member of Parliament Kamlepo Kalua on Tuesday reported for duties at Parliament for the first time since his abduction and he chaired cluster meeting in Lilongwe where MPs are scrutinizing the 2017/18 national budget presented by Minister of Finance and Economic Development Goodall Gondwe.

Kalua went missing last month and was found on Sunday May 7, 2017 at Kwacha Roundabout in the commercial capital Blantyre while tied both hands and legs with blue ropes.

Since then Kamlepo has not reported for duties in Parliament and he was quoted in one of the local daily papers, saying he is planning to go to South Africa for medical treatment.

Speaking after the cluster meeting in Lilongwe yesterday, Kamlepo said he is happy to be back in parliament after his horrible abduction.

“This is my first attendance of parliament and it feels good to chair this committee,” said Kalua.

When asked as to whether he has explained his ordeal to the Speaker Richard Msowoya, Kalua said he is yet to meet the speaker.

The Malawi Police Service and Minister of Information and Communications Technology Nicholas Dausi accused Kalua of faking his abduction.
