Driver arrested for hitting a pedestrian to death with his car in Mzimba

Police in Mzimba have arrested 24 year old Fletcher Mwafulirwa for allegedly causing death due to reckless driving.

Mzimba Police publicist, Peter Botha said Mwafulirwa, who was driving a Toyota Sienta registration number MZ 1112, was coming from the direction of Mzimba Trading Centre going to Chimkusa when he hit 45 year old Phaniso Hunga of Stonya Vinkhumbo village, Paramount Chief Mbelwa in the district.

Hunga, who was crossing the road when he was hit, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mzimba District Hospital.

Fletcher Mwafulirwa hails from Mwanyeshya village, Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga.

He will appear in court soon to answer charges of death caused by reckless driving.
