Kamlepo distances himself from DPP, PP alliance: ‘I only asked for JB’s freedom’

Rumphi East Member of Parliament Kamlepo Kalua has distanced himself from the looming alliance between opposition People’s Party (PP) and the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) ahead of the 2019 general election.

On Sunday PP MPs met President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe where they discussed for a possible loose alliance like that of United Democratic Front (UDF) under Atupele Muluzi.

During the meeting, PP MPs outlined a number of conditions which were presented to Mutharika and one of it being not to arrest former President Dr. Joyce Banda.

Apart from that, PP MPs also bargained for two ministerial posts in Mutharika’s Cabinet with Jooma and recently fired PP acting leader Uladi Mussa (Salima South) as proposed names.

Writing on his official facebook page, Kalua who is also PP Vice President for the North he is not part of the so called alliance with DPP.

“Don’t be fooled by any fake alliance stories with DPP. Whoever wants to join DPP from PP should do so but should not drag some of us, as Vice President of PP in the north and as Rumphi East MP I put the following on the agenda through our spokesperson when we met the president:
1. DPP should Stop harrasing Livingstonia synod clergy with fake court issues
2. Quota system
3. Njakhwa Chitimba road
4. Harrasment of JB
5. All unfinished projects in the north and discrimination of the north

“I am PP and I do not wish to be part of any alliance with DPP or any other party. I.believe this is a stand shared by most MP’s from the northern block of which I am Vice president of,” wrote Kamlepo.

He added: “Those who wish to go work with other parties may do so quietly.”

Meanwhile there are reports that DPP is planning to fire its Vice President for the North Goodall Gondwe to replace him with a PP member.
