Malawians should not support CSOs, MPs on electoral reforms-analysts

Political analysis and social commentators in the country have urged all Malawians not to back the Civil Societies Organizations (CSOs) and Parliamentarian to push government to table the electoral reform bill in August house.

This comes barely after the CSOs asked parliamentarians to boycott the deliberations in parliament if government will not tabling the electoral bill.

Ziliro Chibambo former cabinet Minister said it is not proper for CSOs and Parliamentarians to push the government for the bill.

President for Umodzi Party Professor John Chisi said people should debate on the electoral bill issue and he is ready to debate with anyone who is willing to do so in the betterment of the country.

“Government is right not to table the bill. If the parliamentarians strikes or boycott the proceedings they can bring chaotic in the house,” he said.
Umodzi party President Chisi said the government has mandate not to table the bill because it is not priority to Malawians.

“The bill will not good for DPP but opposition (MCP). Malawi is not manure enough on democracy and the bill should not be tabled,” he said, adding that the government knows the priorities which can benefit all Malawians and not few individuals.

Leader of opposition in the parliament who is also MCP President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Civil Societies Organizations are pushing the government to table the electoral reform bill which allows the majority to vote for the president (50+1) to avoid nepotism.
