Parliament temporarily suspended over Chidanti Malunga’s court summon

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Esther Mcheka Chilenje this morning temporarily suspended deliberations in the National Assembly following a court suing directed at chairperson of Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture Joseph Chidanti Malunga.

Information at hand indicates that Tranglobe Produce Export Limited has dragged to court Chidanti Malunga for suppressing the company’s effort to take part in the implementation of the 2017/18 Farm Input Subsidy Programme.

Many MPs including Salima North West Member of Parliament (MP) Jessie Kabwila described a court order as threat to the MPs.

Kabwila said the issue demands immediate action and asked the Deputy Speaker to suspend the proceedings and allow the business committee to meet on the matter.

Mcheka Chilenje suspended the proceedings after an intervention by leader of opposition Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.
