Woman Conceals Birth, Kills Infant in Salima

A 20-year-old woman identified as Ides Monica Laisi has been arrested in Salima for concealing a pregnant and killing the infant afterwards.

Gift Chitowe, a police public relations officer at Salima police said the woman got pregnant nine months ago but she had been resisting disclosing her situation to anyone.

On 1^st December, a cry of an infant was heard in a toilet and that prompted neighbours to question the suspect but she denied to have known anything concerning the matter.

“Police together with medical personnel visited the place where a baby boy was found dead in a toilet after it was dug,” said Chitowe.

A postmortem had later revealed that the death was due to suffocation.

The suspect is currently in police custody waiting to answer the charges of concealing birth.

She hails from Maijelu village in the area of Traditional authority Khombedza in the same district.
