Ndirande based rapper Born Chriss, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for making a beef song aiming at female artist Kwin-B.
Born Chriss who also once dissed all Lilongwe rappers in his previous song titled “L City Beef” was arrested after Kwin-B real Bertha Lomoti had complained to Manase police Unit that her modesty as a woman had been put to shame through Born Chriss`s song titled Kwin-B Beef.
Appearing in court on wednesday, Born Chriss real name James Kanthumba pleaded guilty to the charge of insulting a modesty of a woman which is contrary to section 137 (1) (3) of the penal code and asked the court to be lenient when passing the judgment since he is still schooling and that a custodial sentence would doom his future.
However, the Police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Boyson Yamungo begged the court to hand him a stiffer punishment arguing that the convict has disrespected the plight of all women in the country.
In his judgment, Magistrate Mbeza of Blantyre Chief Resident Magistrate Court took into consideration of the convict`s plea that he is still a student and that he is a first offender.
He then sentenced him to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour but the sentence was suspended to 480 hours of community service.
He was ordered to be performing community service work at Ndirande Health Centre and advised not to repeat the same behavior he has been sentenced for.
